Contributions
- We have developed a state-of-the-art diffusion tensor template of the young adult brain based on artifact-free Turboprop-DTI data from 72 healthy volunteers. See a comparison of DTI templates
- We have generated a state-of-the-art HARDI template of the young adult brain by applying super-resolution principles in angular space on artifact-free Turboprop-DTI data.
- We have produced probabilistic gray matter labels in the space of the IIT Human Brain Atlas by combining multi-atlas segmentation and the popular FreeSurfer labels.
- We have introduced the concept of multi-layer white matter parcellation providing information about the connectivity of the brain. We constructed multi-layer white matter labels using our whole brain connectome generated from HARDI-based tractography.
Human brain atlases consisting of MRI templates and semantic labels serve a critical role in neuroimaging, by mainly facilitating spatial normalization and automated segmentation for the purposes of voxel-wise, region of interest, and network analyses. Our lab has developed and released the IIT Human Brain Atlas for the adult brain, a comprehensive set of: anatomical brain templates, state-of-the-art diffusion tensor and high angular resolution diffusion imaging (HARDI) templates, probabilistic gray matter labels, and probabilistic HARDI connectivity-based multi-layer white matter labels. All resources are in the same space, facilitating multimodal investigations.
